Help us teach it what to look for
We are building a system that recognises path defects automatically: potholes, washouts, erosion, surface breaks.
To do that well, it needs to have seen thousands of real examples across every kind of ground and weather Scotland produces.
That is where you come in. If you walk, ride, run or work on Scottish paths and you come across something worth reporting, send us a photo.
A photo of the defect, roughly where it was, and the date is all we need. Every image makes the system better at spotting the next one, and better at telling the people responsible for the path that it needs attention.
What is useful
Potholes
Broken surface, standing water, anything that has opened up.
Washouts
Where water has taken the path away, at a culvert or across it.
Erosion
Widening, braiding, edges collapsing into a slope.
Surface breaks
Loose aggregate, exposed rock, ruts deep enough to catch a wheel.
By sending an image you are giving us permission to use it to develop and train our systems. Please do not send photographs with identifiable people in them.
How we handle submitted images, including how long we keep them and how to ask us to delete yours, is set out in our privacy notice.
